malwathu maha viharaya is among the oldest buddhist sanga of the siam nikaya monastic order.situated across the lake wher the temple of tooth lies , the malwathu maha viharaya is made of to complexes made for the recidence of monks.the first complex , upoosatha viharaya is also termed the poyamalu viharaya ,while the second is the pushparama viharaya commonly called the malwathu viharaya,featuring today of a recently build octagon.

Asgiri maha viharaya

north form the lake is situated the asgiri maha viharaya , the other monastic center of the siyam nikaya this temple is belive to be considerably older 'than the malwathu viharaya and the "asgiriya talpata"voices this claim.
